Happy New Year!
I shall start the 1st post of 2017 with my New Year's Resolutions:
- Strict on diet and lose A LOT of weight
- Work more overtimes
- Save a few thousand dollars despite the overseas trips
- Plan and save enough for Maldives trip in September for 2
- Limit myself to not more than $300 (unnecessary) expenses per month
- Keep this blog updated with proper content
- Save up enough annual leaves for Korea trip in March 2018
- Remain positive and spend adequate time on games during free time
- Complete my driving license
That seems like a lot isn't it.. Nonetheless I will try my best to achieve everything this year, especially dead serious about the first one after this few days of celebration. Alright so I shall start blogging about my New Year celebration. It was super tiring, I walked so much in my new pair of sandals so my foot swell and it still hurts. I am so glad that I changed my mind on wearing heels.. So I've went to several places and the experiences was actually all just 'meh'.

Buffet with colleagues at Sakura International Buffet 210, Ang Mo Kio Ave 9 #01-208, Singapore 569777 |
Overall Rating: 2.5/5
Environment: 3/5
Food variety: 2.5/5
Taste: 3/5
Service: 2.5/5
So to start off the day, I went to the buffet brunch with my colleagues. I've made an reservation a day before via the phone cause I thought it will be packed as it is New Year's Eve. Turns out it's quite empty.. So we reach there at about 1.20pm or so. When we enter the place, the receptionist is busy on the phone taking reservation or something so we are left there waiting until a lady approach and take us to our seats. At first she led us to a rather small table (For 6 full grown adults..) so we requested for the bigger round table at the side. She was busy telling us what-to-do-what-to-do the entire time that I felt that she could actually listen to what we might need first.. Then she carried on with "Ok if you all want this table I can let you sit here..", then repeat some of the stuff she just said again. I can see that she is trying to be nice while reluctant to let us have the table for 8 (The table is actually just nice for us) but I just feel that their service has a huge room for improvement as even when I was making the reservation, the service I received was unprofessional.
I've been to their Admiralty Park branch many times before so I was expecting this branch to be better since it is the only revamped branch. Unfortunately I think the Admiralty branch is better than this.. There is not much food variety here, I didn't know what to eat (Even my colleagues agreed). There were also no Portuguese Bird Nest Egg tarts (Maybe there is but the counter was empty the entire 1h30min when I was there), no oysters.. And the Chili Crab promotion they're having? It took them quite a long time to serve, the Coin Prata that I can choose to come with it is also hard.. Not nice. The only thing nice about the entire buffet is prolly the Satay and the sauce. The peanut is fragrant. Other than that everything else is really 'meh'. Maybe it is a brunch buffet so the selections are so limited or it might just be the branch. The staff told my colleague that they are fully booked for the night. Honestly I can't imagine having dinner there and I wouldn't recommend anyone there either. It is not as big and spacious as it looks like from the outside, took the staff long time to replenish the food too.
Around 3pm my colleagues and I parted ways and I met up with my sister and company. We headed to Singapore Art Museum, got the tickets at $7.50 student price each (Hehehe). This is where the torture for my feets start.. It have been a few years since I've last been here. The entire tour was a bit rushed cause 'not enough time'. The rushing killed my feets and left me felt like I didn't really went to the Art Museum at all. :( Would prolly get back there when I have ample time to spare and when there's a more interesting exhibition.

What I meant by I need to lose A LOT of weight.. |
Overall I would say, the exhibition is 'deep'. I didn't really have the time to understand most of the art pieces and my feets was already killing me so I didn't really have the heart to carry on.
After we are done touring both blocks and every single gallery, we took the MRT to Promenade and head to OSG Bar+.
I didn't manage to take a good picture of the bar as there were too many people walking around so I just took this from the internet. I am pretty upset with this bar, it almost ruined my day. Plus point will be its venue. It is easy to find but the only reason why I rated it a 3.5 is that the countdown event at Suntec was coincidentally just opposite the bar. So it would have been a nice place to chill and countdown at but we didn't even plan to countdown there in the first place.
So when we went into the bar, we stood around for a while until the staff notice our presence. The girls had already made an reservation few days ago. We actually wanted to just have dinner and a few drinks there INSIDE the bar. But we were led outside and when we requested, apparently they only have table for 4 instead of 6 inside (It got REALLY warm outside). Before we are seated, the staff told us that due to New Year's Eve, we will have to spend at least $50 per pax (Which means $300 for us). Honestly I really hate such requirements. All the requirements and seating availability weren't mentioned during the reservation too unlike some other bars/restaurants which made it very clear-cut. I was a bit pissed and a big half of me really want to just leave. I don't like feeling forced to order this and that just to hit the amount. But then I didn't want to spoil the girls' mood so I just went ahead since $300 is not much if we are drinking.
Shortly after we are seated, another staff got back to us with a tablet to order the food ourselves. I was very disappointed when I see the menu. The menu is quite pathetic. Of all bars I've been to, that was the first time I thought to myself 'WHAT AM I DOING HERE?". The menu selection is so limited and it doesn't appeal to me at all yet we are supposed to hit $300 somehow. There was also drinks with weird names that I thought of trying but there were no description/pictures of the drinks. By then I was really moody, tired, and SUPER WARM. I just wanted to get whatever I'm going to do there over and done with as soon as possible. So no, I didn't order any alcohol. Just went with Ice Lemon Tea ($6.90) and Fish and Chips ($17.90).
(Insert picture of Fish and Chips here)
Wanted to attach a picture of the Fish and Chips but then thought of how unworthy it is. The Fish and Chips were so dry (Jolene didn't even finish it), the Ice Lemon Tea taste diluted. Angel ordered Truffle Mee ($21.90), swear it is the most disgusting dish ever. It taste and smell horrible. I know truffle is suppose to smell 'gas-liked' but this Truffle Mee is really.. I know I will never be back again. Shu Hui and Jane tried the Aglio Olio ($17.90), I didn't try that but they say it is nice. So to anybody who is even thinking of going to OSG Bar+, order The Aglio Olio..
Our bill total up to $167.02. It would have been reasonable if the food tasted good lol. So ye we didn't hit $300. When the staff came to take the order earlier on, the conversation sort of went like this:
Me: Miss, your colleague told us just now that we will need to order at least $300 as it is New Year's Eve. But looking at your menu, I don't think we can hit that?
Staff: Oh.. Then how long will you be staying here?
Me: Don't have to worry we only want to have dinner here. We'll be leaving prolly even lesser than an hour or two.
Staff: Ok then it doesn't matter.
(And she just walked off)
At that point I don't even care about the staffs' attitude anymore. It was warm and uncomfortable. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the dinner at all. We would have been better off eating at any restaurant in the mall. Also, you would have to pay first before your food is served so I paid with Visa. The staff took the card and the bill. Just when we are about to start eating, another staff came with another bill (!?!?!?!??!?!?!?). My card wasn't inside so I assume they're asking us to pay. So I'm pretty pissed lol. Moments later another staff came with the original bill and I actually said "What is happening?" but either he pretend that he didn't hear me or the countdown party music is too loud, he didn't respond and took both bill AND MY CARD (?!?!?!?) away after I've signed. Both Angel and I was dumbfounded lol. He then came back with my card after he realised 'what-is-happening'. What an experience.
After dinner, we then head to Connaught Drive as planned. The roadblocks were insane. Everywhere is blocked. We have to take the long way. The music there were nice but not loud enough.
We were supposed to get the picnic mats but somehow we didn't and just head to the flea market. The flea market was really short. We didn't really 'shop' because we are all tired. We kept walking and realise that there is a big screen ahead and everyone is watching X-Men. Totally regretted not getting the picnic mat first cause we sat down there and joined the crowd. It is really ticklish as most of us are wearing shorts.
It got unbearable a while later so we thought we should go to Marina Bay to get some food and find a place to rest. This is where the nightmare start. The roadblocks were really horrible. We took a super long way until this traffic light. There was a crowd and the crossing was blocked. They only let a few person pass at a time to the traffic light, and then from the traffic light the people will have to wait again until they can cross. We waited for about 5mins and decided that it is not happening. It is just impossible.. I think we might have to wait up to 40mins if we are lucky to cross that road. So we continued walking and we came back to the place where people are watching the movie. Ye we squeezed with the crowd and walked one big round for 30mins only to come back to the same place..
We actually thought of just heading back to the countdown party held near our house since everywhere in town is packed/blocked. So we reach the flea market and got ourselves drinks (I got the Peach Lemonade at $2. It is so good! Or maybe I'm just too thirsty..) and sat on this empty stage to rest before we head back. We got too comfortable eventually and settled there. We waited about an hour before we walked to the center of the field to catch the fireworks.
And we walked into 2017 from the happening and tiresome 2016 together. May everyone achieve their New Year's Resolutions and be healthy. Happy New Year!
